This past year I had to make two purchases. The first being a desk top computer/Windows 10/11 and the second a Smart Phone. It was demanded by the hospital. "Lively" Jitterbug Smart 3. I have never been able to get photos from the phone to the computer. So I emailed Lively how to do it. They finally insisted I call and they guided me through how to get it to load photos into "The Clouds" and from there to Google storage and then to the Photo storage on my computer. Where I've passed them on previously. I did get that done.

But then the big issue - this ruined the phone and it will take until after new years day to get it replaced.:mad::mad: But then the digital (like a 35mm) and a little pocket model will not be accepted by Windows 10/11 either. I have take them to Walmart and had them copied to a CD which worked on the old computers with Windows 7 and 10. o_O

    "
    Shearing" really?

Try taking the memory card out of the camera and use an adapter to connect it to USB port. Maybe then the PC can read them.

    Bluetooth doesn't work?o_O

The way this thing looks and is set up, Bluetooth is probably buried way down deep and hard to find. The usual thing when something is made to be "easier to use" but ends up that everything is much harder to find.

@Dennis461 - "shearing" is probably auto-correct wreaking its cute little havoc again...:cautious:

The new Smart Alex phone doesn't have removable card, just the plug in cord used to charge it. The two other digital cameras do but, they are not accepted because they also don't have the necessary programs required.
Now the pictures must be sent to a Cloud Storage, which will automatically happen with proper program installed. From the cloud to Google Storage takes another program.
I have no idea what "Shearing" is. Except for shearing sheep.
I also don't use Blue Teeth - at least I don't think so.
This is why I haven't shared some photos about trains.
The old year is ending very nicely. I'm hoping the new one is better. :giggle::coffee:

I gave up trying to transfer GOOD images from my Consumer Cellular flip phone. Went on Craigslist and picked up a used SONY digital camera. cheap--Cheap--CHEAP! I'm taking and transferring all the images I want. Very easy to do with a Dell Windows 11 CPU. Camera hooks directly up to USB port on the CPU. The 'puter asks me what I want to do with the images. I ALWAYS store them on an external hard drive, NEVER in the Cloud. I am retired. I don't live and die by the Brain Sucker [cell phone] Usually it's out in my truck, turned off. If you want to get hold of me, CALL the land line.

Can you access e-mail from your phone? If so, send an e-mail to yourself and attach the photo before sending. Open the e-mail on your PC then save the phot to the hard drive.

I have tried to load a picture to an email after connecting the email program. That toasted the phone. So I have to wait until tomorrow to get the new replacement connected and set up. I never wanted to get all the junk mail I get on the home computer.
Why must everything get all that cloud connections, wifi and have Google active on a phone?? All for the doctors for me. The digital camera don't work either. They are not compatible with windows 10 anymore.

Attaching a file to an e-mail message trashed the phone? o_O

That's utterly weird. Other than poor quality control at the manufacturer (AKA the lowest bidder), I can't imagine any software or hardware scenario where that could happen in normal operation.

This is all pretty familiar. Some years ago we bought my mother a Jitterbug cell phone designed for seniors. She was hip to technology, so we were surprised that she had trouble sending photos until my wife and I tried it. As @Shortround found with his phone, the process was ridiculously convoluted. Sending pictures from an iPhone was a cinch compared to what Jitterbug had engineered.

You certainly have that correct. And it's not just Jitterbug but mostly MicroSoft Windows 10/11. I also had to change how I get info from my bank. And some train hobby suppliers.

Sorry, but in this case I am not so sure that you can entirely blame Windoz; which is my fav goto for blame. Anyway, Edge does some strange stuff and when you go in and muck around with it and change some value, that gets cascaded into the rest which may or may not be what is wanted. Try resetting Edge to defaults and... When is the last time you cleared your browser history AND cleaned up the disk and defragged - both normal and system files? Edge goes to the website cache on disk 1st, even though the website might have changed something. And while you are clearing stuff out: Windoz updates on my house PC took up almost 50Gig and the heads were trashing around quite a bit. Once I did that PC speed was back to normal. Note that according to windoz, defrag is *supposed* to happen on some cadence - ya right. Do it manual and know it will take some time depending on Processor, and disks. Note that I can not upgrade to W11 even if I wanted to. The Micro$oft wanted TPM chip does not exist on the older Dell's ( T5500 ). Dual Xeon 3.0Ghz, 64Gig of memory and 2 1Tb drives. This machine runs circles around those Intel Core (5,6,7..ad nauseam ); I am not a gamer so the 32 processor threads work just fine.

I am not a Chrome fan but use it on W10 without all the associated Edge problems. Firefox is yet another issue on Windoz as it will do strange stuff too. Think that Micro$oft's objective is to not allow anything that is not MS's creation. It is gonna get worse from what I have been reading. Good thing for me that I have been doing Linux for *years* and if I did not have a couple of programs that are windoz only, would trash all of the Micro$oft crap.

I have a Android that does not have that 'new car smell' and would *sometimes* connect to W10 via USB and I could transfer pix from the phone to the PC. Sometimes not. End result is that I text the pix to my email when I just have to have it. Seems that about 3 months ago, Android did an update ( all by itself of course ) and that problem went away and it connects via USB just fine. Sure, just waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Computers ... don't ya just love them?

I was just looking at the Linux site. 24 different "distributions"? Yikes. How do you choose the one which best fits.......???

I banished Linux from my home machines a long time ago. From "distributions" that don't install twice the same way despite doing it the same way, to one that had faulty graphics card driver (for a card that was OEM on half the MBs made at the time!) that was supposed to be fixed in the next version but wasn't... I hate random software behavior...

I ran the installation CDs through the microwave for a few seconds. The sweet smell of revenge! With fireworks! :sneaky:

Since then, no more Linux. Sistema non grata.

Right now I'm using my trusty desktop that I bought in 2008, with it's original Windows XP running. Never had any trouble that couldn't be fixed with a driver reinstallation.

(yeah, I could have tried that with the graphics driver on the Linux installation, but that's pretty hard to find when half your screen is distorted mush and the other is full of snow...o_O you read right: snow. Old school TV snow... )

BoxCab: That is the million dollar question. Back in the early '90s I as looking at Linux. I was familiar with SCO Unix from '87 but that still cost $$$. I tried a few of the spins and had problems like Mike describes. An ISP friend told me 'Redhat'. Well, Redhat seemed to work as described. Back then there was a ton of hoop jumping to get stuff working. Now days everything does what it is supposed to do, except I have problems with video cards - Nvidia specifically as they have not released any of their proprietary drivers to open source and ya end up with 3rd party stuff that is tough ( to me ) to get installed. Other spins may have overcome this problem, I just stick with what I know. I have not looked at Fedora's latest and greatest so that may be fixed too.

Redhat branched into Fedora Core, then Fedora. I currently run Fedora 36 and usually do not upgrade when they come out with new until more than a few years later. All my machines are older so I don't require the newest/latest and greatest. Oh and I always stay away from the freshest spin and choose one or two versions prior.

Best bet is to find an old cheap machine without an Nvidia card ( ATI, Intel or the like ) and throw something on it. Fedora Workstation in my case and don't try and get cute by selecting all kinds of stuff along with the install. Let the install finish first. You can always easily add or remove that stuff at any time afterwards. You don't even have to download the whole image either, just do a 'net install' and remember to update the system ( via dnf; used to be yum ). Most of the time the install will choose good defaults for you, but sometimes.....

I would play with what ever spin you choose for 4 to 6 months before you decide if it is right for you.

This all started when "Spectrum" decided to change over to Wi-Fi routers. My new phone does use it as does my laptop. The new replacement phone got setup for Wi-Fi maybe that's the issue but my banking connection and software don't work right anymore. Also passwords keep changing.
Of course if I had a genuine repair shop that may help also. The one that is left is very arrogant and I don't have a vehicle to go to others.
