Looking for a stand in for either of these tofc flats used by SP in the mid 50s, the f30d seems close but almost 4 feed shorter. Mostly looking for a suitable flat that ramps and rails could be added too.
Makes or made? Do they do re-runs? There are a few of their items I'd like, but they are like hens teeth. I did check and there is 1 on ebay now. Along with quite a few in other road names.
As WoT produced the specific F-70-10 we decided not to produce a specific SP flat car kit [despite my own SP interests and Agua Caliente [on the Hollister Ranch] model on the Coast line in the 1950's!]. However, we have some fairly rough 53'6" cars that we have produced to go with the welded rail train, as it became clear that some metal, rather than plastic, 53'6" cars were needed to run the welded rail consist really effectively. These are, however, of the riveted style. http://www.nscalekits.co.uk/53ftflat.html If there is sufficient interest [and the WoT cars are not readily available], I will look at the issue again and produce a better, and alternative version of the 53' 6" car - probably of the F-70-10, the welded rather than riveted car, with etched wood decks. A F-70-10 in TOFC trim would be ideal. I plan on creating, or asking Digcom to, the SP trailers in paper. Just need to find single axles for the 20-24 foot trailers.
Fine N Scale makes a fairly accurate SP 24' trailer (no side doors) in N scale (bad picture on their website, trailer in the back center). I think that someone also made the 20' trailers, but I'm not certain about that. I've been trying to build a SP TOFC train for some time. I did buy the WoT flats, but because of the cost and rarity, don't want to add the TOFC tie downs to them, but they are the only flats correctly painted for SP TOFC flats (Southern Pacific spelled out instead of just SP) and there just aren't any decals available at all (please, someone prove me wrong).
I have looked again at the SP flat cars - and we have good drawings of the cars to work from. If we produce the car this will include the bridge plates, rub rails, support stands and the wheel chocks. Thanks to Tony Thompson for his excellent range of photos in his Southern Pacific Freight Cars Vol 3 Automobile Cars and Flat Cars. Now that we have print facilities, we are printing decals to go with our new cars - such as the PRR FM cars already released, with new cars ready for the NSE Convnetion in Pittsburgh next month. We will print the correct Southern Pacific decals for the cars. We produce single axles and wheels for the 28' trailers that are already in production. http://www.nscalekits.co.uk/containerchassis.html Peter Peter Harris N Scale Kits www.nscalekits.com
Peter, Greetings! I was wondering if your 53' 6" Flat is similar to the old GHQ/Deluxe Innovations 53' 6" flat (also made out of pewter)??? Thanks!!
Sorry, Mike. I have not got any of the GHQ cars to compare with, but ours is based on a generic car, without an etched wood deck. Sounds very positive - I will let you all know soon, then. Peter Peter Harris N Scale Kits www.nscalekits.com
