As much as I hate RR graffitti, I'd pay a team of taggers to cover up this abomination. It's neither Black Widow or Daylight, but a b****** child of both. It's enough to make me almost forgive Ugly Paintjob for the DRGW mess.......almost........ At least they got the Katy, WP and CNW diesels right.
Birthdays, well sing one for me...grrrghragtede. I can;t be getting older but wait...no singing ...until Sept. 5...ok! Oh, and despite all the nay-saying and boo-hoo-hissing. I like the SP modern day rendition of UP 1996. No changes needed. If you don't see the black widow you don't know SP. So, the CNW UP heritage unit was unveiled on July 15. Where are the pictures? Or does this have something to do with no picture taking in Chicago? Or was the date cancelled? Or does anyone really know? Just had to ask. Of course I could have missed it all. Let's see I may check-out fallen flags and see if there is anything over at CNW. Doesn't anybody post pictures here? Sheez!
Heres our thread on the CNW Heritage unit: http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?t=78743 Enjoy!
I am guilty of this. I know very little of anything early diesel SP. The GS-4 influence is definitely there, but considering it's NOT Armour Yellow and Harbor Mist Gray, I like it. The chances of seeing it in my section of MT? Slim to none. So you So-Cal folks gotta post some pics!!!
Somebody do a side by side comparison and show the influence to me. Is it the silver/gray running gear? Cause the Black just makes it match a steam engine. There's no silver nose, and the white stripes look more like the pilot of the GS-4.
the nose stripes on the black widow look Orange to me I'll grant you that nose stripes are a possible link. Though they're totally the wrong color and the pinstripes should be black. Still, I can't imagine that those nose stripes are that big a deal as to complain about them. And the rest of it including the white pinstriping is totally GS-4 daylight. In fact, I would suspect that those nose stripes aren't so much a real tribute to the black widow as they were a compromise, because they couldn't make the entire front of the Loco silver to match the steamer.
Here's some photos of the unit I found on Webshots: http://community.webshots.com/album/553300531iYupUM
