So I don't ballast my track as I like to use it over again in the future. But, I saw a YouTube video 2 or 3 weeks ago and they person was spraying his roadbed with can's of paint, and he used about 3 different kinds so we could tell what we or he might like. I can't find that video again no matter how much I look. I probably even Subscribed to his channel but have no idea which one it is. And obviously the Title was NOT Using Spray Paint for Roadbed and something like Update 31, etc... So any idea's. It has like speckles in it, like gray and some black speckles, etc... Each one was different, me thinks? Something I can get at Wally World or Hobby Lobby or preferably Michael's and use 20% OFF.
Did he paint the cork roadbed that the track sets on? Dontcha hate it when people fail to properly title videos, forum threads and computer files?
YES, he used like 3 different kinds of speckled spray paint and 3 different colors too. It was awesome. Maybe I book marker it? I'll have to check. And almost sure he was using the cork roadbed like I use, but he might have done both? He could have been painting Kato Unitrack also, can't remember. @Mike C that's exactly what he was using, Many thanks, now to see if they have it in the Shots can's those small ones?
I want the Granite right, NOT the Charcoal? I will give it a try. It should at least tone down the color of the cork roadbed and look a little bit better.
Lot's of peeps use this in Z-scale cause it matches perfectly the Micro-Trains and the Rokuhan track with roadbed. Could probably use the black version for vehicle roads as well.
Sounds like a spatter paint which was (is?) used in places inside cars, such as their trunks. Should be readily available at many hardware and auto parts stores in rattle cans.
No, the paint actually contains comparatively large particles of different color pigments. Beware, a 12 oz can typically only covers 4-8 sqft, takes a long time to completely dry, and if needed to be waterproof (and/or particularly durable) must be covered with a weatherproof sealer coat. As always, follow product instructions. I have not used it yet, but I am planning to.
If you find the video, please post a link, or if you try it out post some pics. I do plan on ballasting, but am considering this method to improve look of the track during the time between laying and ballasting and would like to see how it looks.
Yippee, I found the video, however it is HO I think rubber pieces of roadbed instead of cork like I thought. But this is it, and I Subscribe to his channel and had no idea it was him! But it is exactly what I was talking about. I think it is cool. Plus as usual the info is not even in the title or description I don't think!
