Announcing TrainBoard's 2009 Telethon... As most of you know, less than two weeks ago, TrainBoard, RailImages, and all of our related services moved to a new server. This server will offer us much more than our old one, but it will also cost us more. We moved to a new server because the size of this site (and the amount of traffic it gets) demanded it. You made TrainBoard popular, not us! Our desire is to offer you the best facility we can. You are the one that makes this site what it is. This move was not done without deliberation. We did not get a Mercedes when a Buick would do the job. We got what we needed, and we actually got a good deal. But, the other side of the coin is, we have to pay for it. We have to raise the money that it takes to pay the bill. This is done through a combination of advertising dollars and user donations. We've always made it before, but now we need a little more. We know the economy is not great and people are cutting back, but if you derive any enjoyment from this site, please consider kicking us a few coins. What options are available? One option for supporting the site that has been popular for quite some time is our $2 monthly donation. This is done through PayPal. By signing up for this, your PayPal account pays us $2 every month. This is the price of a large cup of coffee, just once per month. If 100 people did this, those funds combined with our advertising revenue, would cover the bills. Unfortunately, we don't have 100 people doing it (yet). Due to a recent request, we have added a new option - $5 monthly through PayPal. You will see this option on our support page. For those that want to do a little more than $2 monthly, the $5 option is an alternative. These monthly donations are set up to be automatic. Once you sign up, you automatically send us $2 (or $5) each month. You don't have to do anything each month and if you want to stop, you can turn it off in your PayPal account and that's it. These $2 and $5 donations really help us and they don't cause too much pain on your end. One of my favorite sayings applies; Many hands make light work! Other than that, we do have "one-time" donations available in $24, and then $50 to $1000. (Don't laugh. We've received some big ones in the past.) All of the above are through PayPal but the payments are done just by clicking through TrainBoard. Now, I know we have some people here that don't like PayPal. The PayPal system works pretty good for us. We accept donations through PayPal, and also pay our monthly bills through PayPal. Some folks have suggested Google Checkout but that is not built into our software yet. When it is, we will add that option. But, if you don't want to use PayPal, then a check or money order can be mailed to us; TrainBoard.com 240 Davis Road Alexander, Maine 04694 So, what do you get? We have a list of account enhancements posted here: The latest list of what we offer to financial supporters - TrainBoard.com There are actually a few more bells and whistles than those listed. For those wanting a custom avatar, this process takes a bit of time as our graphic artist donates his time. He normally knocks out a few at a time. It's been almost five years since we've publicly asked for money is this way. At that time, we raised over $3000 and we were in pretty good shape for quite some time. As people donate, we'll post updates on our totals, and each person that donates will receive a thank you message with details of account enhancements, shortly after donating. A $2 monthly subscription will be interpreted as $24 and a $5 monthly donation will be interpreted as $60. When you choose to support TrainBoard, you are doing so just to help out. We are not making a profit, but we are not a tax-exempt organization. Thanks for your consideration.
Looks like the TB stimulus package is the best I've seen. TB is the best train site out there. Let's keep it that way.
Thanks for a wonderful site Charlie. I just sent in a donation. Have fun sending in a donation to TrainBoard:thumbs_up::thumbs_up:
At times, we do worry that we won't be able to pay the bills. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvbAseCN8F8"]YouTube - Three Stooges, Moe's death scream from "Spook Louder"[/ame]
