Folks, As most of you know, we try to make instances rare in which we actually ask for donations. People donate throughout the year (without being asked) to the point that we normally don't have to talk a lot about money. This brings up a common question that is asked; How is TrainBoard funded? We use a combination of 1) Advertising, 2) Donations, 3) Affiliate clicks (eBay for example), and 4) Special Run(s) (a new one will be coming at some point soon). Our server bill is due at this time. We have been advised that rather than renewing the present server, a better option, both cost-wise and technically, would be to move to a new server (within the same hosting company, with whom we have had good results). Sometime in the next week, we will be offline for a short time (several hours possibly) as all of our data is moved to a new server. We hope the new server will make technical worries and backups a non-issue as we move forward. All of this is part of our efforts to improve TrainBoard and grow the site. We want all of you to be a part of that. We never ask people for large donations (in spite of the fact that we have received them at times). As I always say, many hands make light work. If all of the members that visit this site in the course of a year donated $2 each (annually) then we would never have financial worries. However, people don't do that so some people have to do more. We don't ask retired folks, who may be on a fixed income, to donate. If money is tight at your home, then please do not donate. If you are a person that can afford to make a small donation and are willing to do so, then we ask that you consider doing so. CLICK HERE TO DONATE If you would like to re-live our last Server Telethon (from 2013), click here. We raised $1600 during that effort. Although that kind of money does not pay the entire bill, that combined with advertising, etc., makes it work. The money that we have from the special run (we have not spent a penny of that money), will be used to pay the deposit on the next run, which we are going to get serious about soon. Thanks very much folks. Charlie
We're not setting the world on fire this time but we are up to about $160. Thanks folks. We are experiencing some major expenses relating to the new server and the move so if folks feel inclined to help a bit it is appreciated. We might be moving to the new server today or tonight so if the site is off, that is why. Charlie
Charlie, is there a way to make a one time random donation ? I'm already a supporter and I do not want to start another subscription .
Check it now Bill. I have added more options. I had been behind after our software change in getting these set up. If anyone would like to contribute an amount not listed, please message me. We are up to $289 now. We've got a way to go!
Charlie I may not be as active a poster as I was but I can still help out some and I did. Thanks for the best multi scale site on WWW. See ya Ron
Unfortunately, the software does not allow an option for you to enter an amount. If you want to give a different amount we can send a private message with our PayPal -or- physical address. The main enhancement that we offer right now is extra RailImages space. Regular members get 50 megabytes and supporters get 250 megs of space. We may have to up that at some point soon though. Thank you!
I opened my paypal account and sent Trainboard "Charlie" $25 through the email account of "***@trainboard.com" According to paypal, somebody with the name of Charlie got the money.
Yeah, that would be us. Thank you! We do have a $25 option on the donation page though so it would just click through that way.
At bottom of the page it says "PayPal One-Time $25 Donation This is a one-time donation of $25." followed with "Expires: Mar 3, 2016 at 1:06 PM". No button to click .
Oh, I see what is happening. Because you have already purchased that subscription, it won't let you purchase it again until your subscription expires. I had not thought of that. Let me do some thinking on that one! Charlie
We've had several very nice donations, including a couple of $100 donations. We are up to about $700 (ballpark). We will continue to try and raise funds as we are looking to get into the $2000 range during this push. As you have noticed, we prod lightly rather than banging the drums every day here. So, if you feel compelled, we appreciate it. Chalie
