Could be one of the biggest most complicated rail construction projects in many decades. https://railfan.com/stb-gives-high-...UoKQbZTAvhKTTzMLn28V4_AyjFGVIhdqEr-Vsr_n8fMGo
It seems like an oil equivalent to the Powder River Basin. While any new rail project is exciting, I wonder what prevented pipeline development. Was it political, or due to rough terrain that would prevent laying a pipeline? If they can make a railroad, why not lay pipes? This seems like the only traffic the line would see. It seems like a risky investment, especially as governments and consumers attempt to reduce carbon emissions. We've been seeing a slow decline in coal traffic with the closure of more than a few coal power plants, but can we expect a similar fate to unit oil trains? Who is the primary customer? Power generation? Petro-chemical?
The Uinta as well as Piance Creek basins are among the richest mineral, oil deposits and natural resources in the country. Much more there than oil.
