I am heading out that way in a week or so. Can anyone recommend a few good viewing locations? I have never been there and I would love to get some good photos of a pretty amazing facility. Thanks!
The best place for trains is just east of the yard close to the Y, where trains are coming and going. The Amtrak station is an SP depot of interest at the east end too. Good to walk around there. On the north side next to the shops is a livestock auction yard that is higher elevation, so you can see a lot of the yard at ones, lots of locos to see from there. On the south side is a steam loco you can check out, and also a good train watching spot. Go back 2 streets and there is a train shop hobby shop too.
