I am searching for a walkaround throttle to use with the non-DCC layout I'm building. The shelf layout is L-shaped, one leg 16' long, the other 8'. The shelves are 18" wide. This is a low-key shortline pike, one train running at a time. I have a MRC Tech II Railpower 1400 pack. Most of the throttles I've found are for DCC; I do not believe I need DCC for my layout, and I do not wish to convert my 9 locos (they are not DCC friendly). I will appreciate any advice on the type of handheld throttle I could use and the sources. Thank you. John Adney Marion, Iowa
Great question John, thanks! I hope someone has an answer. I have a Tech II 2800 and wonder the same thing. I can't justify spending $100+/- just to get walk-around. [ 02. January 2003, 20:16: Message edited by: Hank Coolidge ]
I am also a non DCC user and use a radio controlled throttle built especially for model railroads. It is excellent to use and I highly recommend it. Here is the URL for the site and a picture of the unit i use. RCS Controllers
Paul, thanks for the link. It looks promising at first glance. I hope it's available from a distributor here in the States so I won't have to pay single item shipping and duty ...
Got this of another board " Subject: Re; Throttle Try http://www.blwnscale.com/MRC.htm MRC makes MRC#55 walkaround throttle." I have been looking for one as well for those times when I am on the "other side"
I can highly recommend the walkaround throttles from GML Enterprises. I've used a couple, and they're really nice. He offers them with and without memory; the w/o memory throttles start at $43.95! He doesn't have a website, but his e-mail address is genelewis@sprintmail.com . Or you can call him in Michigan at 248-628-4445. Pat
Hank, yes the controller is distributed in America. Check the site out I'm sure it has a list of distributors
I appreciate the suggestions from those who responded to my question about walkaround throttles. I've purchased from BLW the MRC 55.
John, I can't find any technical info for the Cab-55 ... how does it connect with a Tech-II supply? Thanks
