What Browser(s) do you see access your RR site the most I keep track of allot of "Website Statistics" on my RR websites to help me make my sites better for those that visit. One of those statistics I track is what Browser people are using when they view my sites. I wonder what other people see on their sites for those that also track this information.
While it is interesting to look at this stat, there have been some versions released for the lesser-known browsers that by default identify themselves as Mozilla or IE. The theory is that the website is looking for a specific browser and will put up an error message if the reader is not using a "preferred" browser, even though the page will work fine in almost any browser, so the browser lies to the web server. In other words, you're not going to see a truly accurate number with this statistic; because of this, I don't usually examine the browser stats on my sites, but I (at least try to) code my sites to conform to the basic web and HTML standards so that anyone can read them.
My Top 5 on the DHVM & RRAdventures On the DHVM are: 71.28 % - Internet Explorer 6.x 11.34 % - Internet Explorer 5.x _6.33 % - AOL _4.27 % - Mozilla _2.82 % - Netscape 7.x On the RRAdventures are: 69.96 % - Internet Explorer 6.x 21.62 % - Netscape 7.x _5.17 % - Mozilla _1.17 % - Safari _1.00 % - AOL
LOL Yes, I agree that FireFox is gaining ground on usage. In my stats they currently show up generically as "Mozilla" and I do see a strong trend of FireFox taking over the Netscape market. You can see this the most in my DHVM Stats as Netscape use to be higher than "Mozilla" but now "Mozilla" is seen nearly twice as often as Netscape. Do we track any of this on TrainBoard / RailImages / RailSeek as I wonder what we see here as well?
All of those stats are available from the server. Firefox is very popular now. The casual user often uses IE as it comes installed on most machines and it is habit for most people but I think the serious surfer is shifting to Firefox in a big way. See the attachment for a sampling of people here as I post this. Charlie
Maybe I'll try it when I get back. Microsoft has stopped developing Internet Explorer for the Mac--not that I use IE, but sometimes I need it to get to some military image databases. These sites do not like Safari for some reason.
Pete, Mozilla has Camino out for mac. I for one get mostly IE 6.0. Of course, modlogan says I have the most hits from Opera 8.0, but that's me!
Mozilla (Including FireFox) For those that say "Mozilla (Including FireFox)" is such a major broswer hitting your website what xx.xx % of the hits are from this vs. other browsers?
With IE7 and FF2 I thought I would capture my NOV01 Stats On the DHVM are: 71.39 % - Internet Explorer 6.x 10.81 % - Internet Explorer 5.x _6.26 % - AOL _4.83 % - Mozilla (Includes FF) _2.72 % - Netscape 7.x On the RRAdventures are: 71.98 % - Internet Explorer 6.x 19.25 % - Netscape 7.x _5.39 % - Mozilla (Includes FF) _1.12 % - Safari _1.01 % - Internet Explorer 5.x Will be interesting to see how these numbers change with both these new browsers hitting the market. You can tell that Netscape is lossing market share rapidly. I have heard the Opera is another good browser but don't see much usage. Anyone else have experience with Opera 7 and how it matches up to IE and/or FF? :computer: :computer: :computer: :computer:
Because I talk to a lot of computer people, I find 99% of them use firefox at home and about 75% of them use firefox at work [when allowed too]. Of the others I find that 45% use firefox and 45% use winyuck explorer. The other 10% use other things. Most people use explorer because they don't know there is a difference. But in time they will LOL Anyhow, that's my findings. Those that know use firefox, those that don't know yet use winyuck explorer
After prompting from Charlie, I now use Firefox exclusively. The tabbed browsing is very handy. Now set as the default browser on both my laptops. My son likes Safari on his Mac at work - seems with it you can email a complete web page with a click or two.
MS Internet Explorer 74.2 % Firefox No 16.3 % Opera No 4.4 % Safari No 3.4 % Netscape 0.7 % Unknown ? 0.7 % Mozilla No 0 % Links No 0 %
I use Firefox on all three computers. It's a fantastic browser with many features that IE6 didn't have and IE7 is first starting to use. Stay cool and run steam....
I've downloaded Firefox to replace Netscape on my home PC Charlie, you better sit down!!!!!!! mg: mg: mg: mg:
Since I have not done this in awhile I thought I would post my most recent readings Stats for DHVM: 71.82 % - Internet Explorer 6.x _9.97 % - Internet Explorer 5.x _6.33 % - AOL _5.37 % - Mozilla (Includes FF) _2.61 % - Netscape 7.x Stats for RRAdventures: 70.46 % - Internet Explorer 6.x 15.22 % - Netscape 7.x 10.83 % - Mozilla (Includes FF) _1.21 % - AOL _1.12 % - Safari So far it looks like IE6 is still the main browser used by those accessing both my sites but I do see Mozilla usage growing (with FireFox being part of that) and Netscape dropping in usage. I myself stopped using Netscape over Firefox at home while we still us IE at work. :computer: :computer: :computer: :computer:
Since I have not done this in awhile I thought I would post my most recent readings Stats for DHVM: 72.21 % - Internet Explorer 6.x _9.44 % - Internet Explorer 5.x _6.34 % - AOL _5.74 % - Mozilla (Includes FF) _2.48 % - Netscape 7.x Stats for RRAdventures: 70.91 % - Internet Explorer 6.x 14.26 % - Mozilla (Includes FF) 10.95 % - Netscape 7.x _1.65 % - Safari _1.25 % - AOL Trending on my sites show Firefox overtaking Netscape but IE is still the standard browser of the masses. It is interesting that between the two sites the #2 through #5 browsers are different in ranking and percentage used. :computer: :computer: :computer: :computer:
