Very good. That's about what I thought you'd be looking for. But I didn't feel a need to search more. But can't find mine either. So I'll have to look there I suppose. I've got a new catalog.
Guess what I found last night while looking for something else? Missing for several years, it was hiding out in a tray full of small screwdrivers. I'm going to paint the end red so that I can find it next time.
Next up on the DS&N RR agenda is this mystery part that appeared after opening boxes of a dozen locomotives to test them on a Kato #4 turnout. When I boxed them all up to put away, I found this part laying nearby. Does anyone recognize it? I looked at the parts diagrams for my steam locomotives (Spectrum 4-8-2, LL 2-8-8-2 and 2-8-4) and there's nothing like it shown. I also opened Atlas C-628s, SD-35s and Trainmasters, Kato SD-70/80 MACs, PAs, U-30Cs and 2-8-2, M-T FTs and Con-Cor PAs. I didn't open up all of the boxes again to see what might have fallen off. Sorry about the lousy photos. It's made of black plastic. Maybe not a locomotive part at all? Almost looks like the end of a piece of rolling stock with steps (?), but those slots are a puzzler. Anyway, thanks. My trains have been stored away for a long time and it seems that just about everything I pick up doesn't run or falls apart.
I'm building up quite the pile of locomotives that don't run (yet did when I put them away years back) and broken parts. And when I try to fix things, something else breaks. Sigh.
These parts look like a MAGNETIC DOOR CATCH from kitchen cabinet. Does the grey part have a magnet in it? The black part is STEEL that hooks to the grey part by magnetic attraction. Check any of your Kitchen cabinets or others around. Any Cabinet Maker should be able to tell you exactly what/which model it is.
The gray part is a Kato Unitrack rail joiner. I should have added that the mystery part is about 5/8" Long x 3/16" Tall.
That one does look to be a handy addition to the hobby. I have the long springy one but it would be difficult to work on the trains. I will leave a note on the Micro Mark catalog.
