William- I downloaded their v3.1.4 some time back. But never got around to trying it. Have you? If so, any particular quirks? Thoughts? Boxcab E50
I'm trying it now. The Atlas RTS is OK for basic design, but it isn't helping me cope with a few critical sections. I don't know how long the learning curve will be - my experience anything worth learning takes a while
Its great. You really need a four button mouse because along with left and right click, you really do need ENTER and Contrl + Z on your mouse. It takes a little getting used to. You lay some track, then you modify it all. Different approach to CAD than ive seen before. Very powerful, lots of tools. There is even a car database where you can DUPLICATE your own fleet including wheel base, drawbar length, etc. and make sure it will run in those tight sections.
I like the Xtrkcad. It's better than the Altas RTS and easier to get the hang of then 3Dplanit. Israel
Well for some reason it dumps and everything I've done is gone. I've tried a re-install, Defraged the drive then re-installed but it still dumps. Anyone have a suggestion.
Well, I spent part of the day putting in my design into XTrkCad. Wow! It is so much easier to use than RTS, and a lot quicker to pick up, too!! It's a lot more accurate and in the end you get work done a whole lot quicker. I ended up with a full-size printout of "that" section around the yard throat, complete with calculated grade and elevations, in a few hours. So tomorrow that corner gets attended to. Only thing I haven't figured out yet is how to save as a JPG file, or any other way of ending up with a post-able image. Anybody know how to do that?
William- Apparently you didn't experience the problem Jim R noted? So perhaps it's something on his system? Maybe I'll give it try tomorrow. See what it will do. Did you do the "free" registration thing? Boxcab E50
William, To save it as a JPG file. Press the print screen button and go to paint or another image editing program and paste it.
In the main menu you can " print to bitmap" then save it and using a graphic pgm change it to a jpg. For fast work I use: http://bluefive.pair.com/pixresizer.htm Works like a charm every time, and it's free. [ 31. January 2005, 01:09: Message edited by: GCH ]
I have tried the RTS and didn't really get to far. But then, I didn't really apply myself either. So I'm gonna give this a try. Heck, for free, I'll try almost anything!
I installed it today and near as I can tell it's working ok. I spent a couple of hours with it this afternoon and, for me at least, it seems to have less of a learning curve than the 3rd Plan-It demo I was running. Mike C Phoenix
Adding one more thing....where can I get at least some rudimentary car inventory so I can run some trains?
this is something i've posted in another thread... i hope someone can help me here: so is there an easy way to scroll across to the different track? or do you just have to sit there and go one piece at a time? whats with the printing? are there any settings i need to look into? thx in advance
For the tracks you can put your cursor in the box and right click. It'll give you a drop down menu with the various manufactures so you can quickly switch between manufactures. Within the same manufacturer you'll have to use the arrow button. As for printing I don't have any problems with that.
