Ottergoose: My pm to you and your latest post here crossed in the ether. Let's let them cancel each other out.
Wow! This turned out to be a popular thead! Interesting responses so far. Glad to see others are choosing a certain span of years vs. a single year to model. On the subject of budget, I do believe that this can have an impact on decision making as far as modeling timeframes. Russ
My choice was a favorite time, place, and railroad. A proto-freelance of The Milwaukee Road, western Washington, circa Spring of 1968. It's pre-mega merger era. No Penn Central exists in my world. Nor GN Big Sky Blue. Large diesels limited to U33C, SD45. Electrics not yet fading away. Plenty of F units, and early Geeps. The timber industry still booming, heavily using rail shipment. Big wood chip cars barely coming onto the scene. Passenger trains colorful, and classy. Boxcab E50
"Post war" But I refuse to say which war. Or maybe I should say somewhere between the industrial revolution and the digital age.
I used to model 1985-1999. I now have narrowed it to June/July 1998. Sudenly, I have enough extra cash to afford a new Mustang GT... barely.
