Kevin, you know that I am really enjoying these progress photos, and thank you for posting them here. Are you the photographer? If not, can you point out some shots that you are in?
I forgot that the 2900s had roller bearing rods. That one shot looks like they are in good shape. :tb-biggrin:

Wow, roller bearings in the Walschaert reverse gear link! Roller bearings everywhere.

A few parts came from other locomotives. For example, the ones I can think of off the top of my head:

Left crosshead: 3778
Guts of hotwater pump: 3776

The compressors are not original. They are from unknown locomotives.

 

The wheels and axles are all 2926. The last thing that has park paint are the rods. I wouldn't be surprised if they are a mix + match set. The crossheads/rods were a package from Timken.

The tender is 2926's.

I spent part of my afternoon a few Fridays ago looking over the 2912 in Pueblo. The moving end link that attaches the link block to the locomotive's frame had 2900, 2907, 2909 stamped in it. The driving axles had various road numbers stamped into the hub. It is a bigger hodge podge of parts... it seems 2926 is mostly 2926.

Wow, Kevin, looks like that rod was a pain. Let us know if you get it off. :tb-sad:

My guess on the rattly plug, is that it is a temperature sensor. (I have similar plugs on my "White 550s".) The side rod will come off, it will just take time and caution, the goal is better than a standard shop rebuild. We have the time to do it right.

Thanks again, Kevin. Interesting that some of those rod bearing surfaces look great and others are corroded. :tb-confused:

 

Actually I think those are before and after photos. The Crud turned out to be mostly grease and light corrosion. So far the roller bearings look good. (Grin)
