The Walthers decals I have, are from years ago. When that was all you could get. For their day, they looked good.

Next up, numberboards, all-weather windows, trainline hoses, and some detailing; class lites, fuel filler and sight glass highlights, etc. I wish I had EMD builder plate decals...

    Nice work!

How do you keep the line between the black/orange crisp? I have used masking tape, cut it with a fresh razor blade, on glass, pressed it down with scribbing tools, kept my paint thick and my air pressure as low as possible. It STILL get paint wicking under the tape :(.

I use Tamiya masking tape, highly recommended by Jason Willett. It really does work well.

You can try sealing the tape edge. Spray it with matching under color. Or a clear coat.

I used 99-cent masking tape from Walmart--and BNSF7173's methods for thinning, and shooting paint. I followed it to the letter.
Jim is an incredible painter, thanks for the tutorial!!!

I have asked you this before but I forgot. How did you get your black to come out so well? Model Flex black, white and silver I gight having them "gum up" in my airbrush. Your engines look great, by the way!

Thanks, and see the tutorial, Mike...
I thinned my black, and the orange 20% with 91% alky, and stirred it well before hooking up the airbrush. I shot it directly from the bottle.
I also used a #3 needle and head. I had to pull the head several times, to clean it, but it worked like a charm. The head would gum up, and dry up, then I'd have to clean it. No biggie, comes with the territory of acrylic paints.

Sounds like the 91% really speeds up flash time.

I dunno if the alky speeds things, but Modelflex dries quickly already. Typically, you can shoot, mask, and reshoot in under an hour is most cases.
