From 03/31/1979 at Knoxville, TN, month-old per diem car LEF&C 1290, built 02/1979. The little road is gone today, abandoned in the early 1990s.
A couple from the "home" team, Reading & Northern. 7229 is ex-Reading Co., and the other hopper is ex-Pennsylvania Power & Light. For RBMN 11006. the paint seemed so fresh, it was like a modeler had shook it out of the box and placed it on the track. NS 14Z, 2024 January 11
Former SP liquid sugar tanks, now for water service. Built in and around 1942. Seen here at Tehachapi CA, in the early 1990's.

From August 1990, SBD 201497 at Montgomery, AL. I don't recall seeing a whole lot of SBD cars. The road's life was rather short.

From 03/04/1978 at Knoxville, TN, spanking new MNJ 120927 had been built just the month before, complete with a Hennessy wheel. This car was one of 500 leased by the road when per diem boxcar mania was in vogue. The M&NJ's history is a complex one, getting its start in the 1860s as the Middletown, Unionville & Water Gap RR. The M&NJ remains today, much enlarged and owned by Regional Rail LLC.
