Yup, tis one of the tiny things I look for when an unexpected derailment occurs. Part of the fun, right?

My old front door to the Trainshed was getting worn out and problematic. It was used when I got it, free, and the frame was for an interior door, so was a kindasorta, yeah it 'works' fit.
    PIC_0262.JPG
And here is the new doors. Way better fit! And better insulated while allowing light to get in without the heat! Today, the top and sides get finished up.
    PIC_0265.JPG
The new tracks for the small community grain and such are getting control switches in,
    PIC_0266.JPG
And some ballast, more to do yet,
    PIC_0267.JPG
And after cleaning the yard tracks some more, I reloaded the yard area. Irt did need a couple of other minor tweaks and fixes, as expected.

I have spent the better part of this entire day reading this thread and I'm only up to page 45 but I had to comment. Badlandnp my hat is off to you! This is the thread of the decade and it's giving me a ton of inspiration as I get back into N Scale. It doesn't hurt that I'm focusing on the GN and NP as well and that I love eastern Montana. I used to hunt near Wolfpoint.

Well, thanks! It has been a lifetime getting to this point, and it is a lot of fun. I am glad you have enjoyed it!

I have been in Montana for the better half of my life, and have no plans to leave, except for little short trips to see family or friends, Been to Wolf Point a time or two, it's only 100 miles form here. Purty country! And empty!

The GN, NP and Milw all are a fascinating group of RR's. The settling of this are was entirely driven by the RR's, and it was an amazing period of history! This entire area was the last of the wild west, up until the 1920's. The last cattle drive to a stockyard in Glendive was in the 60's!!! Right up main street! Fun!

    Anyway, thanks again!

After cleaning the tender wheels and cups on the #5, it runs much smoother. Yes, I also spent a bit of time cleaning the drivers... Also, there was a seriously bad 'hopping' problem on a switch, which came down to a tight frog closure and a too tight stock guard rail. Improved those clearances and it rolls and runs much smoother through it now. In the video, I found another broken solder, and another tight clearance. Too be fixed later!

Did some lint cleaning from the tender axle cups this week, it has been a while since I have done this, so it was needed badly on the 4, 5 and 2511. What a difference it makes! The 5 doesn't need weight added to the tender to keep it going, which should always be a clue to me that it may be time to do some cleaning!
    This is the 5,
    PIC_0305.JPG PIC_0306.JPG And the 4,
PIC_0315.JPG PIC_0307.JPG And the new grain elevator siding is in service. Most of the issues are tweaked out of the track and switches,

Badlandnp - You are making some very inspirational videos. It is great to see your new improvements and then see how you patiently work through any new issues.
    Thanks, Tonkphilip

Dust occurs everywhere! Covering a layout when not in use can help, but how do you cover large layouts like you have?

A twin-xl fitted sheet perfectly fits over my 36x80 HCD layout. But I might have to build a frame around/above it to keep the sheet from messing up scenery when I get to that point. Maybe a sturdy back-drop that wraps around the ends?

Thanks guys! Lint comes along in many ways, as we all know...... and the new door will help slow it down some.

I figure that the best way to do these is to be real, a derailment doesn't need edited out. The 'fix' ought to be shown as we, if possible.

My 9.5' x 28' layout is too big to cover. It is in it's own trailer house, and older 50' Rollohome. It had an older door I cobbled together. But the new one is much better and should keep the dust sown.

Thanks for all the input guys. We all have fun with our railroads, which is the point. Today, I ran trains, and ran trains. Did some switching here and there, and ran trains. FUN!!

I have made some actual progress this week. Ballast and some ground cover around the grain elevator siding, here's ballast,
    PIC_0325.JPG
    And ground cover,

Right to the edge of the layout!

Which makes for better photo settings.

Definitely! Some of the delay is for planning structures layout, and some is for other plans not yet done. Ain't no rush!
