I was messing around with the stock pens over the weekend and took a photo of the unloading chute and one from the other side with a Baldwin S-12 backing a couple stock cars into position:
The stone building looks interesting. What is it? Vaguely reminds me of a couple of Milwaukee Road depots.
Your layout is looking great. I'm glad you are posting pictures for us to see. Keep up the good work buddy!
Dale, Boxcab, Thanks for checking it out! The stone building is by Railway Design Associates (RDA) and is called Freeman Manufacturing. I am using it as part of my Iron Works area. The kit can be purchased for about $25. I made a video series of putting it together and that will give you a better view, if you fast forward through it:
Threads like this are making me want to get that family room cleared out and painted sky blue so I can begin my layout.
Here are the results of a few weeks of rock making and landscaping, first the before photo: Here is after adding some Woodland Scenics rocks made from molds, I made about 7 separate pieces and joined them with joint compound: I painted over them using watered down acrylics: gray, light brown, and black; applied in blotches and streaks Here are some aspens I painted and applied to the other side of the portal: Thanks for looking!!
Thanks, Boxcab; I used some white acrylic and put a few black spots on for the old branch stubs, the trees are from Woodland Scenics "fine leaf foliage" which usually comes with several stems that make a nice tree.
Excellent work sawman! If you ever get bored of the mountains and trees, I can put you to work down here in the flatlands!
Hi Dale, thanks for the comment! I checked out your album this morning and liked your grain elevators and modern trains. We see a lot of BNSF up here, not much for UP however. I liked your prototype photos and corresponding models to go with them.
Thank you sir! I need to do an update on the album. I have some nice pictures to add to it. I am currently pouring "paving" for the lumber wholesaler yard. Lots of different things to do!
I have been working on utility lines for a couple weeks and here are some pics of the first attempts, I used thread with glue applied for the wires but still not quite happy with the results: In this shot, the lines are too wavy; if they don't sag better I am going to be re-doing them. Although as my wife says, they look fine unless you get close up: Thanks for looking!
I bought mine from one of our TrainBoard advertisers, Fifer Hobby Supply: http://www.fiferhobby.com/html/scenery_details_n_scale.html
I went ahead and ordered the heavier thread from Fifer Hobby, and have to admit it was the easiest checkout that I have ever experienced! I used the pay pal option and did not even have to type in my address or card number or anything! Really good experience, I will let you know how the string works.
I would believe the line would look good in HO. The sizes are shown, but may be a bit too large for N.
