Andy- If you bought it from JD, I'd be pretty confident that project was well measured off the prototype. John does a good job of getting 'em right. Boxcab E50.
Ken, When I opened the package I thought that it was going to be way to small. Then I scaled the picture and it's good. Almost like he used this portal for his master. It is the only tunnel portal I have seen that is built out of house brick, and thats the way he made it. It's cast resin and has very fine detail but it is small then I guess back in the late 1800's they didn't made them any bigger than they had to! Only thing extra I have to do to it is add a strip of styrene close to the top and scribe in the names of the company president, officers, and the guy who designed and built it. Then it will be exactly like the proto.
Back Again!!! I tried to get a day ahead in my post to keep things moving along. Here I have the portals in and the tunnel walls. On the left I am starting the mountain base
GOING UP, putting in the mountain bases all prepainted with there base coat. Going to have to get the tunnel track ballasted before I cover them up. start cutting the foam for the mountain next, it's like a big jig saw puzzle!
Making progress. I'm curious to see how you'll be finishing the other side of the opening! Boxcab E50
Only three more layers to finish, Post pic's tomorrow. Ken, Do you mean on the other side of the wall? If you do, thats back into the Portage yard. I have a Rock cut on a 45 deg. angle to hide the hole as much as possible. There is also going to be a track going around Portage so I can get to the other sid of the room if I ever get that far!
Ken, I have an older pic of were the track comes through the wall in Portage. Since then I have put in the York Coal Co. in the bottom right corner. I will try to take a better picture of it all finished, but this will give you some idea. I took this standing on a chair. I didn't get any pics of Tunnel City tonite but will shortly!
OK guy's, This will probably be the last post on this for awhile! I have the mountain built and painted with its base coat. Still have colors to add to it. Then build all the structures, so it will take awhile. hope you have enjoyed it so far, I know I did!!!!
Andy, It looks great. You motivated me to get back to work on my 32 sq. ft. I will be a ballast layer, creek cutter and Dells sculptor for a bit. One thing. Where are the cows? Moo, Mark
Sorry Mark, No cows in Tunnel City, I think they are banned there!! Actually there isn't much of anything left in Tunnel City. BTW, get some pics on your progress!!
I'm Back! I divided the scene into sections, north and south side, stations, mountain. I have the basic south side scene in minus foliage and ground cover. This is Werner Transfer and Storage. The original structure was only two stories tall but I liked the looks of three. It is kitbashed out of the back of an IHC kit, Last Stop funeral home. I am now moving to the north side and complete it this far!
