According to http://www.trains.com/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=41902 Union Pacific is painting at least 5 engines in Fallen Flag color schemes of railroads that were assimilated in previous years, namely the Missouri Pacific (MP), Western Pacific (WP), Chicago & Northwestern (CNW), Southern Pacific (SP) and Missouri Kansas & Texas (MKT) colors. At least that’s the rumor I’ve been hearing. At least 3 of these paint-job engines are supposed to be shown in the very near future.
WOW!! I was going to say this sounds like last years April fools joke, but since the source is Trains............
There are pics of 2 of the engines looked like the Mopac and WP under tarps being towed somewhere.Yes they are SD70ACe's [ July 28, 2005, 08:24 PM: Message edited by: Ed Pinkley#2 ]
I've also heard the special paint jobs were to commemorate the branches of the armed forces, so who knows???
I have already seen pic of a WP dash 9 in CTC Board. it would be nice if the reason for doing it was to remember UP's roots. But alas it is to justify license agreements.
http://www.railroadforums.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=36720 this is a link to the pics. They are on the first page. The person who got them must have been in the right place at the right time. Sten I think that was a April fools pic of the WP dash9.Please correct me if I am wrong though.
can I delete those, it was an April fools joke DOH!!!!! oh well it would give the WP fans an idea of what they may do
THe first two are on the way to Omaha to be unvieled this weekend at an employees only ceremony....they are MP and WP....my sources say SP and DRGW also, but don't quote me on that...since CNW isn't as popular as SP/DRGW, I doubt you will see that..UP is playing to the ratings here....and also your wallets...this is their way of keeping the paint schemes alive so that they can charge you for them....also, for future reference, this name belongs to Ngauged, only I use this when I am in Long Beach...just so people get it right...out!
Paul, they should pay YOU for using YOUR idea! If they actually do this, I hope they keep them clean, like the Olympic torch units. The rest of the fleet is a disgrace, but it would be a sacriledge to let the fallen flags units stay filthy...
Honestly I think it is neat.It lets some of the older people see what they remember in todays settings. And it lets the younger people get to see heritage engines. It kind of brings the generational gap together in railfanning.I just wish they would do it more often.A bunch of Jenks Blue running around wouldn't be bad at all.Speaking of that I sure do hope that SD70ACe has a HUGE SCREAMING EAGLE on its long hoods. And a buzz saw on the cab.HEy wait a minute Mitch you have been working your butt off recently.Just what were you custom painting?????
