Vote for your favorite SP/SSW paint scheme. Please tell us what scheme if you chose 'other'. My vote....Black Widow! Followed by Kodachrome.
I have three favorite SP schemes: Scarlet & grey Same, with speed lettering Anything else but the Tyco-inspired Kodachrome
My guess is Kodachrome will not do well, but we'll see. I've heard alot against the "ketchup & mustard" scheme.
Funny, I llike it on Santa Fe, but not SP. Why is that? Is it the warbonnet shape? Dunno, but whoever said I was logical?
I voted speed-lettered, but maybe that's just what I'm used to. Out of context, I would say I liked Kodachrome better, but I think of it as more an SF scheme than SP.
1) Black Widow 2) tie between Kodachrome and Bloody Nose. 4) Daylight 5) Tiger Stripe The HH660 #1001 (SP's second diesel-electric) was black with a white stripe and classic "Southern Pacific Lines" before the repainting in Tiger. I thought it looked good! I don't care for either Halloween or Speedletter.
I had to vote for the Shouln't Paint So Fast scheme. It really was a very eyecatching scheme, but I don't think that the entire raod would have looked good in it. Being a Rio Grande fan, I just can't go with the bloody nose and Speed lettering. Paul H. Liddiard
So far only 33 votes. Seems Bloody Nose and Black Widow are a tie. I'm surprised someone voted Halloween as their favorite but it is kinda cool.
Which one is Halloween? I'm not sure I would consider Speed letter and Bloody nose different schemes as Personally, I consider the lettering to be seperate from the paint. Anyone who likes the Speedletter scheme, by default must like the Bloody nose.
Bow Wave? What about the Bow Wave? We didn't vote on that one. I guess it was sort of the Halloween, but I think it was a transition to replace the tiger stripe, so it was much earlier than Halloween. Maybe the Bow Wave was just SSW? BTW, that second Bow Wave...what a picture!
That paint scheme is what I was referring to as Halloween. It was only SSW however I also lump the SP F units that got black and orange experimental into this scheme. Also I believe that one SD9 got orange ends on a black hood. This would count for me as well.
Halloween doesn't look the same as Bow Wave to me. http://espee.railfan.net/nonindex/s04_photos/1563_sp-s4-don_jewell.jpg A list of (possibly) every engine that received Halloween paint: http://espee.railfan.net/halloween.html
I apologize for any confusion as to what the "Halloween" scheme is. I've always lumped together any unit that was all black and orange as Halloween not including Tiger Stripe of course . This includes the above version as well as the 'bow wave'. Well for me anyways. Maybe I shoulda thrown up Tiger Stripe instead?
