HI guys. Here are some projects I have been working on. First off, the SD70M. I did a TOOOOOON of work on this. Here we go: New Plow Air hoses Modern style ditch lights (BLMA .....not out yet) Cut lever MT Couplers painted hand rails white grab irons on top of nose, front and back of unit 3 air/water seperators 1 bell windsheild wipers scratch built the blower housing scratch built the flared radiator housing sunshades rear view mirrors lift rings HTCR truck side frames (not available any where) modified the fuel tank and added inlet pipes Anti glare panel (painted on, and the yellow actaully wraps around on top!) Here is a picture of the beginning of the whole falred radiator thing... With the custom paint job...... Flared radiators! Front This shows the carefull masking on the nose, and that the yellow actually come up one the nose. Also note the window gasket is painted in with black. Let me know what you guys think...
more.... BNSF GP9B unit......just for fun..not done in pic Here is the 70M's sister. This is a prototypical unit. This C44 is the only one in real life with the wings at this time. Not done in photo. BLMA GPS dome atop!
Nice looking SD70M. Why didn't you use the Microscale anti-glare pannels for the unit instead of painting it on? Just wondering.
Thanks Scott. Paint looks better than decals if done correctly, plus the decal would conform to all the grabs well. I could add them after but then I would have to match the paint on the grabs to the decal. I forgot to mention that I didn't use the SD70M decal sheet, instead I used the decal sheet from another UP loco and the Union Pacific (side) spacing was wrong, so I cut out each letter and put them on one by one, they came out perfect IMHO.
Cool job... I think you may very well be the first person to do one of the flared units. Dave D. Craig, Great stuff. Do you sleep and go to school while running a business and modelling? Keep up the super work.
Craig, What can I say the SD70M looks fantastic, I especially like the flared radiator. The paint work is also great and I'm sure you could make a lot of money producing these Congratulations Craig
Once again Craig you made my mouth gape. I really suggest you take some pics on a layout and mail them into any modeling magazine. People rarely see this kind of detailing and it would be good for them to see it exsists. Great job. How did you model the flared radiators? Mike
Craig, That engine is just fantastic. You did an awesome job. The detail is great. Not to mention your as usually super high quality paint and decal job. Keep up the good work. Can't wait to see what's next! By the way, those HTCR truck sideframes are a nice touch.
Thanks for all the great comments guys!! The side frames are (I think) what make the locomotive. And I am about 99.99999 percent sure I am the only person in the country (our world maybe) to have turned an Atlas SD60M into an SD70M and have the right trucks. See, I have the molds and as far as I know I am the only person that has even done the side frames. The side frames were added on like soooo.... 1. File down old SD60 side frame paper thin. So thin that the 3 little "cones" that the end of the axles go into show. 2. File the HTCR Phase II casting down paper thin. 3. A little super glue here and there, wa-la! Not rocket science, just some creativeness I think I will send some pics into N RR or N scale mag soon, and I'll see what they say when I say I'm 15. I guess we'll have to wait and see.....
Wings? Don't mess with Big Bird! Absolutely awesome job!!!!! I love the little details: grabs, plow, cut bar, the wings are nicely executed! Great job! I also liked the GP9B.
Here are some more SD70M shots, this time showing more detail. Pay close attention to the modified fuel tank and the HTCR trucks. This picture shows a BLMA detail part that is not out yet, the small air/water seperators. This pic also shows the modified fuel tank.
Craig, I was on Ebay this morning and saw something I thought you would snicker at, somebody took a hatchet to a Kato SD40-2 and did a poor job, (IMO) of a Tunnel Motor kitbash. It's in the N scale category. Kind of a waste of a good locomotive if you ask me! Check it out! 2slim

In the words of Lisa Simpson... EWWWWW! http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1131735649 Gary.
Excellent job Craig (now I can see the pics - thanks PhotoPoint!). I like the HTCR truck sideframes - I need a set for a SD60MAC. Are these available and when are the air/water seperators going to be available? Gary.
I think the hatchet would have made a better job. I think this guy used a chainsaw. Anyways, good thing he's got a money-back guarantee!!! I feel bad for the poor dude that bids on it. OUCH. I am no Craig M., but I think I could do a better job myself *a virgin kitbasher*....
This is old news. This guy has been tring to get rid of this for 3 months and it's made from a SD40 not a SD40-2.
