Glad to see the Montana Central is making a return. And yes, I agree, Geeps and Fs are a necessity if modeling BN in the 70s.
ALthough I've known about it for some time, I even drove along it's lines on my way to whitefish, I didn't realize they had such a small fleet of locos. It's kind of the ultimate model railroaders railroad, since it's easy to reproduce the entire fleet. And they even run a dinner train according to their site. Sort of an interesting namesake for a layout: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montana_Central_Railway or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Montana_Rail,_Inc. there are two to choose from it seems. he he I read more of the discussion and realize I'm a little late coming into this one.
The dinner train is seasonal. We did enjoy it. The cars are old B&M RDCs that have been demotored, and reconfigured inside for dining. Meals are not prepared on the train, but catered in, but are excellent. They also ran a train around the Christmas holiday called the Polar Express especially for kids. They're doing a great job with what they have.
My Montana Central is very fictional, and like Alan said the name came about as it was my initials. I had no idea about the original MC, I might try to think of a way to link that one with mine. Here are a few of the Montana Central fleet. The RS11 will be back dated and remove the air con unit, not sure that looks right for the era. And a caboose, had issues with vandals so most windows have been blanked. Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191
Nice looking locomotives. . . . . . Freelance. When you freelance, anything goes because it's your railroad.
This arrived today, I went for code 83 even though it is more expensive and harder to get. Unfortunately I am working for the next 4 days so I will have to wait till Thursday to lay the mainline. Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191
Started to plan the layout, nothing is permanently in place, but it has helped to know what the first turnouts need to be. As soon as I get them I will build the mainline. Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191
It's starting to look like a railroad. I like it. I see you're doing the same thing I did on my layout expansion. I like to have the track and buildings available so you don't start laying track and then find out that building won't fit.
Yep, I also use the "flexible" plan method. I have shuffled things around quite a bit during construction! Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
The first track has been laid! The mainline is in along with the switches for the upper and lower levels. I would add photos but my Tapatalk is not working at the moment and my works fun filter is stopping me uploading photos, I will try when I get home.
I'm curious as to how you are supporting the ramp up to your second level? Can't see the brackets underneath.
Here's how I support shelves. My layout s around the wall for most of it and it supports shelving for me from 24" to 40" wide. Works like a charm and extremely strong.
Good method. Looks like white glue has dribbled onto the near one! I guess some missed and hit the floor?
