Good picture, Jeff. I think this is a rebuilt Cotton Belt GP35R, SSW 7637, speed lettered. I would think any GP35 surviving today on a class one railroad is rare. But, maybe not? The dynamic brake doesn't look like a GP35. I was thinking that the Espee style numbers made it an original Espee number and not a repaint.
I've got a small collection of Espee units that I have captured in my travels... Here's a couple for starters... A couple SP switchers at D&RGW North Yard, from onboard Amtrak: This old GE was stashed in a siding at South Fork, CO:
The UP roster on their website confirms SSW GP40-2. The two it was with looked worse, if that's possible, but I didn't get any info on them. I saw an unpatched SD40-2, SP 8694 a few weeks ago, but did not capture it. Driving is a pain, sometimes. Jeff
Great stuff guys! Keep em coming!! I have another but am waiting till I post it in my next SP update.
Did it come without the standard SP lite package? Orwas the paint shop crew that good with a torch, welder, and patchwork?
Hemi 8552 did have the SP light package. This appears to be some sort of borg change. In stead of the head light down on the nose, they put it where the Gyra once lived.
SP did get creative with some of their UDE "patch" work... Chrome Flare45 with common patch This one is way different....in her former number 9203, she had a UDE light with a silver lens frame/door
