Old 352 looks to be in pretty good shape. Thanks for sharing always like seeing SP equipment still running..."SP lives"
Here's another survivor. Started life as SP SD9 #5377 to SP #3855 then rebuilt to SP #4331. Then she became California Northern #203. and now she is Twin Mountain Rock #602.
Another good one. SP GP40P-2 #3198 (J Hunt image): renumbered to SP #7601 (my photo): Patched to UP GP40-2 #1373 (Patrick Scott image) And finally a full repaint in UP (Keith Belk image):
A Cadillac, restored by Lavacot Locomotive Works, at Sherwood, OR in June 2008. Jeez, I can't believe this old steam nut is learning to identify diseasels.
UP 1373, what was it's initial design for? It looks like a passenger cowl on the rear, like the GN SDP40, and 45's.
It's a GP40P-2. Only three were ever built, all for SP. They're basically GP40-2s with an extension on the rear of the carbody to accommodate a steam generator for passenger duty, hence the GP40P-2 designation.:tb-biggrin: They were bought for use on Espee's Bay Area commutes, helping to replace F-M Train Masters. Once Caltrain took over the commute business, they were put into the freight pool alongside the Espee and Cotton Belt GP40-2 fleet, being renumbered to fall in line with them in the process. Very cool units; more pics and info on them here:  http://espee.railfan.net/spgp40p-2.html
Wow some really nice finds posted here fellas. The Caddy restored was my Fav tho. Always been partial to them. Thanks everyone for sharing there much enjoyed.
I couldn't believe it the first time (no, not here) I saw a shot of a GP40P-2 in UP colors. I had thought modern UP was lacking in interesting power. I also know of at least one of these http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/pictures/3139/up_2768_ca_sanluisobispo_2749.jpg but are they actually ex-SP?
Yep! Ex Erie Lackawannas I believe. To my knowledge, not used for passenger service. Rebuilt to SD40-2 standards by MK for the SP but kept old carbody and such. That also explains the "SD45"s you may see wondering around in UP paint. None of the original SP SDP45s exist.
Holey Moley! It has a plow! I've just been going through my F units trying to get tham all detailed and presentable. That involves number changes and other things, so I have been checking numbers closely. This 6309 was purchased Oct. 1950 in a group with 36 inch dynamic brake fans. Originally Black Widow colors. Nice picture, Russell. What RR is that?
Louisiana & North Western. It became the Texas Limited #200. Here is the other side of it. This was taken in Galveston. Its sister, ex L&NW 44, ex SP 6379 became TL 100. Here is 200 while in service with the Texas Limited.
SP 8584 SD40M-2 taken May 2005: This is a UP shot but there's a patched SP (now UP 2743) back there: Jan 2007
