Where was the Great Falls electrification substation located? Any of it exist anymore?
I didn't know anything about the Great Falls trolley until the Steinheimer's Electric Way... enlightened me!

Here's another shot I forgot about--this is actually a bridge of sorts, looking west towards Belt Creek Tunnel 5's east portal:

Nothing remains that I can recall.

They only had one motor. Similar in appearance to the steeplecabs used on the main line electrification. Catenary was also similar in style.

Supposedly this was done for smoke abatement. Yet they ended up using steam engines anyhow.

I saw that it was removed in the mid 30's? That would certainly put it in the steam era.

Not too amazing to me--there are a few left in town, but all but this one have the feathers removed, and replaced with simple red rectangles.

That's what I mean. The feather is still there. Has not been adopted into a private collection. Those other targets described, are BN.

    Bob-

Actually, you certainly saw these. And also, the GN version. GN also had a feather style target. The difference being it was solid red, with a white dot in the middle. See below:

I remember seeing some pics that Hemi took around the Red Coulee area on the NMD. Some of those pics showed a structure, or ramp beside the track. I came across these pictures showing grain loading taking place west of Lewistown Montana. These are the property of "20 Reeves Highwheeler" at

Any caption info? This almost seems familiar. If that is the old courthouse in far distance, (with the small dome(?) for lack of better words), this should be looking south, on old Main Street. The next cross street south, could be Fourth Street. Those two buildings at right of the horse, resemble buildings still there today, if 4th Street is correct.

No more info except muddy Kalispell "main" street. I believe you are exactly right Boxcab, if you notice, hanging off of the front of a building, is what appears to be a clock. 2 years ago when I was traveling through, "a" clock was still there, hanging off of the building over the sidewalk. Why did I look?, My fathers uncle used to work there as a jeweler / watch repair in the 60's and 70's. Unbelievably, that sure looks like the same clock??? I believe this to be looking south, on what is basically Hwy 93, what do you think?

The man has a treasure trove of pics taken around Lewistown, and incidentially, is living in Kalispell :)
