The 500 class was eventually renumbered into the 2500 class by adding a "2" to their road #'s. Harold
Here's the next unit, # 502... I like this old photo... check out the sanding facility in the background.... the tracks are curving to the left, however, as shown in the picture of unit # 500, they curve back to the right! It was late in the evening when this was taken: Harold
Harold, Since you are the CSX expert, Its there a GP-35 in the yn2 scheme, and if it exists, do you have a picture of it. Thank You in advance. John
Harold: Excellent pics; I like the older paint schemes. What does yn2 mean? Where does the slogan "Family Lines System" originate or what does it mean?
John, I don't have any photos of a GP35 in YN2. I don't think that they existed.... I have a photo in the CSX blue/grey scheme, C&O, Chessie, and RF&P. CSX had sent a lot of their GP30's and GP35's out to be remanufactured into road slugs that were returned to them. I guess you could say that they do exist in YN2 and YN3 now! Flash, Here is YN2 (yellow nose 2) scheme: The newest CSX scheme is YN3: Both photos courtesy CSX photos site. Harold
Flash, The "Family Lines System" was name given to the operating company comprised of the SCL, L&N, Clinchfield, Georgia, & West Point RR's. This was the forerunner of the Seaboard System. Harold
Harold, Sorry to bother you with another shameless request. Do you have a picture of a GP-35 in yn scheme or Norfolk Southern with a low nose. Thank You again. John
John, I am sure I can provide you with a picture of a CSX GP35-based slug in YN2 scheme. As far as low nosed NS GP35's, the only ones I am familiar with are the ex-N&W units, exx-P&WV + Wabash units... I am thinking that they were retired before being repainted into NS. I haven't had a chance to dig thru any of my own photos yet, but I found some on the CSX photos website: Harold
Hey John, I checked into the NS GP35 info... the NS retired the low nosed GP35's by 1991, so they never made it into NS paint. All of the ones I have photos of were painted in the black scheme with large NW lettering. Harold
