Genesee and Wyoming Railroad- Retsof, New York. Interesting fact= Retsof, is "Foster" deliberately spelled backwards! Boxcab E50
I believe the "Boston & Lowell" was the original company that led to the formation of the Boston & Maine. The B&L initially was leased with the formation of the B&M holding company in the 1890's, then dissolved as an entity and all assets absorbed into the B&M 1903-4.
I tried, last year, to learn more about the B&L. Made an attempt to contact the historical society. But nobody would ever respond. Somewhere on the 'Net, I did see a date of 1887. But that's all i ever located. Boxcab E50
Ken, something has happened to the B&M Historical Society in the past year or more, dunno what, but their website has gone ultra-commercial with ads and pop-ups all over hellangone, so I took them out my bookmarks. Here are some links for the B&L, some good, some so-so.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston_and_Lowell_Railroad http://library.uml.edu/clh/Lophoto/Lophot4.htm http://www.bedforddepot.org/RRHistory.html http://www.answers.com/topic/boston-and-lowell-railroad http://cgi.ebay.com/1800s-Boston-Lowell-Railroad-Timetable_W0QQitemZ270018875694QQihZ017QQcategoryZ4136QQcmdZViewItem http://www.ushistoricalarchive.com/train_maps/cd1/32a.html
Well, a few mentions of the B&L. Kind of sad that answers.com merely parrots Wikipedia. Onward. More stuff to come! Boxcab E50
Hank- I spoke with a friend by phone two nights ago. He's originally from B&M land. And was a B&MHS member. But gave up on them. He's sad and puzzled by their web site, and more.... Boxcab E50
Lamoille Valley Railroad. Copied at Morrisville, Vermont, on September 6, 1979. An MBS Clearance, is a Manual Block System Clearance Card. Train crew copied. This type of paperwork was, sadly, the replacement for train orders. Which eliminated the people at depots. Which then severed RR ties with those local communities. And Railroad management everywhere, still has not figured out how this loss of public relations, has adversely effected their bottom line. Can you say opposition to railroad plans, more trucks, etc? Although a Rutland Railway form, this is not a Rutland train order! Copied at Bellows Falls, Vermont, on November 1, 1964. It is a Monadnock, Steamtown & Northern Railroad ( "Monadnock Northern" ) train order. Which was a noted, but short lived operation. Boxcab E50
Narragansett Pier Railroad train order. Copied at Peace Dale, Rhode Island, on August 21, 1961. A former segment of New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad trackage. The NPR also often used old New Haven forms: Boxcab E50
