Ken, what is the meaning of this order? I don't understand an order that says in effect...You have NO order, and also says...Stop signal is displayed for No Signal, because you have NO Order...Huh? Or as is often said down here...Do What????
Hank- I'm not 100% sure why they say "no signal." As Swanton was the western end of their line, I'd bet there was simply no train order signal present. They'd be using the same form all across the system. So this was the simple way to make it legal for use at Swanton. Being the initial station, Number 74 was cleared, with one order, and departed at their scheduled time. Boxcab E50
Hmmmm. Something went wrong. Part of what I typed, doesn't seem to be there. mg: This is not an order. It's a actually clearance card. To which any and all appropriate orders, for that train, would be attached. Clearance cards, depending upon company, varied in what was stated on front. Boxcab E50
Am still trying to figure out what happened to that missing part of what I'd originally typed. Must have been done with invisible text? mg:  Boxcab E50
You'll have better luck finding the Lost Dutchman's gold mine, than finding another one of these: Boxcab E50
This one is very lightly copied. But can still be read if careful: THE VALLEY RAILROAD COMPANY TRAIN ORDER NUMBER 1 JULY 4, 1972 ESSEX, CONNECTICUT ENG 400 WORK EXTRA 853AM UNTIL 1155AM BETWEEN ESSEX AND DEEP RIVER NOT PROTECTING AGAINST EXTRA TRAINS LMC COMPLETE 853AM COLLINS Boxcab E50
Vermont Northern Railway- Morrisville, Vermont. After the St.Johnsbury & Lamoille County RR ceased operating, Morrison-Knudsen was the contract operator for just over a year. Then the Lamoille Valley was formed. This is a universal M-K company form. They used it for all their rail operations: Boxcab E50
This wraps it up for US small companies. There were several Canadian operations. Including branches of CN, CP, GT(CN), and even the Napierville Junction RY. I'll pursue those next in this thread. Later on, will tie things up, with the Central Vermont, and the D&H RR. Boxcab E50
