Friday morning? I have to work, and saturday, I'll be coming into town, but about noonish, for the N scale show. Anyone else planning on going?
Hey Jeremiah, I met up with Keith Hahn and John Widmar and we had an educational time, to say the least! I'll post pictures tonight and tomorrow morning. My wife and I plan to be there from about two or three in the afternoon. We've signed up for the pizza dinner and after that we'll do the layout tour. I'm interested to see how far the DANS layout has come. We made friends with some good folks from the Oklahoma N-Trak club and so we'll probably be hanging out at their layout for a good while. You have my cell phone number - give me a call around that time and we can meet up
Which layout are you referring to? I am hooked up thru a friend to see Mike Danneman's DRGW layout that evening.... I'm SO EXCITED!!!
plus an original DRGW Hard hat William, would you know where on earth I can find my very own original DRGW hard hat? [ 30. April 2004, 14:30: Message edited by: JASON ]
With pleasure! North Yard Tower: A small portion of Mike D's fleet in the engine service area at North Yard: A bit blurry, low light, and I was running the train while my buddy took thses shots: My BN-led train on Big Ten: BN 6772 approaching Clay (IIRC) siding: Westbound empties at the overpass just before Tunnel 1: Exiting tunnel 1 westbound near Plainview siding:
Not all of Mike's layout is finished, however: BN 6772 eases through the Tunnel 27-29 area, approaching Pinecliffe: A dead Geep 35, with the hood doors left open by an irate crew: Nearing 9200- feet elevation, I guide my train cautiously towards Moffat Tunnel (not finished yet): Last nut not least, Denver Union Station:
I really want to get back to the Moffat line before it closes for maintenance.... I don't think I can, before shutdown... I would love to railfan it in a few new spots, maybe with a trainboard-er!
Being out of work yet, I've got plenty of time!! Have done any railfnning over Moffat in a LONG time. I'm due for a trip up!! Day and time is all I need!
Jeremiah, I need someone to show me how to get to the Tunnel, as well as the other spots like Big Ten. I'll trade you some good urban DRGW spots and throw in a bbq Except for the 15th, name your date...
Back on topic... here's a DRGW survivor to go witht he GP-30 shown earlier (actually, they are on the same MOW train)
Except for the 15th?? That's the only saturday I have free this whole month, and it's only the second of the month!!!! Maybe I can do like Jerry Debene, and do a photo essay of where they all are! If you are not available for the 15th, it'll have to wait till the line reopens in July/Aug....
Hemi, If you have anymore photo's of Mikes layout could you do us a favour & post them,I need another fix of this fine layout. BTW would you happen to know how Mike built North Yard tower, looks fantastic,I guess he must have scratch built it?
Well...if I rememebr right...doors are usually left open on overheated units...so yes, the crew is probably Irrate and it probably is dead until it cools down! That is nice modeling.
Jason, About all the good pics I had, I posted. Most were motion-blurry, and the others were just plain underlit, blurry, or something. North Yard Tower was prolly scratchbuilt. I didn't ask...
Interesting.....since both Craig Branch and North Fork Branch coal trains have to run thru Moffat, wonder if these trains will be detoured west to SLC, then east on the UP's Overland main thru Wyoming? Or will those mines just shut down due to lack of cars to load? In either case, there's gonna be a lot of coal flooding thru Moffat down to Denver in the open running windows.
I've seen several of those hoppers on North Fork Branch coal trains (and I've even seen relettered Frisco hoppers as well!) during my stay in Grand Junction. Incidentally, the guy that is/was offering these in N scale lives up the Gunnison River in Delta, where the North Fork Branch splits off the Montrose Branch (and where these real-life prototypes still roll). As for the F-unit, I think it would look better with the other Fs out at Golden, but that's just me.....I hate to see such an example of a great paint job be lost. As for
HemiAdda2d: Thanks for the photos!! Man I would love to run some equipment on that layout...but I don't think my HO stuff would work too well. That is a VERY nice shot of the North Tower. Thanks again.
