In the past year or so, here in Central Texas, I have shot two basically untouched D&RGW EMD SD50s. #5503 and 5507 looked to be in very good shape with only the mars lights missing. Will have to fire up the scanner and scan those shots sometime. Both units were shot in Taylor, Texas last summer but I still see them occasionally.
It'll be next weekend now, before I can get to the museum for photos. Decided to sleep in yesterday and today. Until about 2:30PM!!
Keep an eye out. FINALLY managed to get to the museum today. Got some shots of the COORS SW-8 as well as the Rio Grande GP30. Definately going to require LOTS of work. Here's a couple of the GP30: And a couple of the COORS SW-8: [ 23. August 2004, 02:01: Message edited by: Keith ]
My wife is always bringing me gifts from her trips around colorado looking for photo subjects. this time I got stuff that looked like this.... and this... But this is the real treat for me... These are the last days for these types of paint schemes even if they are patched. It's sad to watch the slow extintion of these units. shoot em while you can!
Came across these on Saturday March 12. While watching switching action in Ex Rio Grande North Yard. Apologies for the posts in the way. No other access for clear shot. Also saw this being moved, then removed from locomotive consist. Had some old ratty SP stuff hooked up to the front of the unit. And a shot from the rear. Notice something unusual??
Long hood forward operation! Neat stuff guys! Geeky, that Tunnel Motor is one of a very few (fewer than the Geeps in DRGW paint) TM's in DRGW paint, patched or not. Good catch!!!
Alan, Not quite. Look higher!! Like the numberboards!Looks like they needed one fast and couldn't wait for proper board to be built.
Here's an oddball, alongt the lines of DRGW 3118. Note the sharpied-in numberboards on this tunnel motor:
Paul, yes that's true. However, it beats the alternative: And, incidentally, this picture is taken say 200 yards away from the old GP30! The GP 30 picture was taken less than a month ago, the deadline picture was taken this past January, I believe. </font>[/QUOTE]I was just stumbling through here again and realized there were pictures from my neighborhood. I live about four blocks east of that yard. I even got to visit the yard sometimes because my Bro in law worked for UP. He never let me see too much though, he was too embarrassed for his work friends to find out I was a foamer.
Keith, here's a sister unit, I think it is the 10103, but I'm not completely sure. My shot also has too much stuff in the way, and I sure wasn't going to tresspass!
