Well had these two show up today, an Undecorated Atlas RS1 and a Roundhouse 2-6-0. Why can I not resist these sales?

Well here is a real pain in the backsides. I had to order a Digitrax decoder for a locomotive set that already had Digitrax decoders.
When I set the package down on my work table to do the install, some of the parts fell off the decoder. Lucky that was through a local train shop and he accepted it and returned my money. Three cheers for local train shops!

From Scale Trains - I got a 6 pack of ExactRail Southern Waffle box cars in the Red Claytor paint scheme. I have always been a fan of the ExactRail cars. I am pleased that Scale Trains went with the plastic cases instead of the paper cases ExactRail used.

This is both a recent purchase and what was on my workbench. I completely disassembled it to resolve an electrical issue. It runs great now. B-mann Consolidation.[IMG]

Awesome pic; it even shows the axle suspension negotiating the mis-joined rails!

Would love to get one of those. May have to wait a while. Got to set up layout first.
That is a nasty bump in the rails. :coffee:

It's the foobiest foobie to ever foob. But it's got the new DCC-ready mechanism that runs circles around the old Ajin version. I'd planned on using it to re-power my Metrolink F59, but now that I've looked a little closer I noticed they've actually upgraded the shell detailing a bit too. I'm rather tempted to try and re-paint the new shell into a second Metrolink unit. Trouble is, no one makes Metrolnk's purplish-blue paint.

Also, does anyone know what kind of decoder these take? The factory light board almost looks like a Kato-style board, but I can't find any info on any decoder mfg's website about this loco.

Have you checked Spookshow (not sure if that is what you have) and I'll bet you can match the purple yourself.

Would this be what you need (Is it Athearn")....

Thanks! If it was a snake it would've bit me. I must've scrolled right by it at least three times.

With that sorted out, it's time to play with paint mixing.

I have three of these, one Amtrak that came with DCC/Sound installed and another Amtrak DC only. I also have this one
    ATH 15272.jpg

and was hoping to be able to find a drop-in decoder for this and the DC Amtrak. Could not find one on the Digitrax sight either and Spookshow (as mentioned above) indicated this was not exactly DCC friendly so I haven't pursued it further. I would be interested in a decent drop-in decoder as well, if there is one.

I'm guessing it's the older Korean-made one? Those need to be hard-wired, but on the bright side it's the easiest hard-wired decoder install I've ever done. Once you slide out the little metal strips that bridge the pickups, motor, and light board everything is electrically isolated. And none of the metal needs to be milled. The big drawback in my experience is having to un-solder the wires to the pickup tabs to remove the motor cradle/light board/decoder assembly for maintenance. If I was going to do it over again I'd add TCS micro connectors to the pickup wires to make them removable. There's plenty of space in the loco for that.

    But we digress.
