These will fit your era for sure. Maybe a little weathering if you are into that. I'm like you guys though, if I like it, I'll run it even if it doesn't fit.
I picked up a box of 50' rolling stock (75 cars) from an estate sale. It's mostly Atlas, but some stuff labeled Bower and some called J&J. Since I'm just getting into N Scale, I have to research the good vs bad RS manufacturers as well as coupler conversions to standardize my growing roster.
And now for something really crazy........... After all the failed decoders I ran into, I decided to try something different, especially with the locomotives with the Lenz decoders. Not sure why, but I placed them on the programming track of my ESU LokProgrammer thinking what could it really hurt. Well it seems that many of the dead decoders actually are not dead. It was able to read and write CV rather easily. I did not believe it would work but it did. So maybe, I should drop kick my aging PR3 and get something else. Any suggestions?
I would like to stay away from Digitrax. Sorry but they have been a big disappointment in everything I have ever purchased from them. From decoders to DS54's, DS64's and even the silly limit of slots on the command stations.
I've been using the The LocoBuffer-USB that's manufactured by RR-Cirkits. I've been using it since you helped me to program the chips years ago with no issues.
If the Lokprogrammer is working, maybe stick with it? I have one and like it but still use JMRI's DecoderdPro a lot. You could put together a DCC-EX Command Station for under $75 and use it with JMRI only for programming if you wanted. It also has features.... https://dcc-ex.com/reference/tools/diagnostic-d-ack-command.html#gsc.tab=0 .... that help in programming stubborn decoders that others don't have. You can Override ACK processing mA pulse size, Override ACK processing minimum pulse width, Override ACK processing max pulse width, Override 250mA prog track limit while idle and send a log file to their support team 24/7 for help (free). Picked up a couple of Fox Valley SD70Aces this week- The S&A in trade through this forum and the other off eBay. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
So this weekend was the last “official” show of the season. I had quite a haul and most of it was not out of pocket. I fixed things for people which brought me either useful items or money. I even ended up with some G scale stuff. Some purchased, and some free, but since this an N scale group I will leave the G scale alone. (Plus it’s all packed away in the trailer already) A vendor at the show needed a decoder installed in a difficult engine and when I visited his booth he noticed me taking interest in this NS heritage unit. So a few hours later he offered the engine to me for the decoder installation. Sounds good to me! Its my first Fox Valley Models locomotive. Here is one of 2 E8 Amtrak units that will pull my Rainbow era cars. The day one E8 One of the G scale vendors gave me this throttle. He didn’t know what to do with it and he knew I was a Digitrax user so he gave it to me. I don’t know how to use it, I will still give it a good home. Here is the new TCS LT-50 command station I am going to use for my mini layout. I didn’t get this at the show, but it was waiting inside my mailbox when I was at the show. And lastly a pair of DT502D throttles. These used to be mine, then I sold them, and I just got them back for doing some work for one of the vendors at the show. I always bring extra throttles for club members to use, and some of them do not like the newer throttles… so now I have old design throttles that work great so they can use.
Well my Scale Trains AC4400CW's finally arrived after 6 delays, the worst part was when they arrived at a hub 47 miles away and sat there for 3 days. No more UPS shipments for me, all USPS 2nd Day Air or FedEx 2nd Day AIR from now on. No more UPS anything, too many times deliveries take longer than was expected or what was promised. Sortation issue, plain incompetence. They all have visited the LokProgrammer, and now are visiting JRMI. Photos tomorrow when there is better light.
Got the new Kato Viewliner set. Went with the unlighted version and then installed the light kits myself. Install was very easy. The new cars have small posts that slot into the light bar and hold it in place. I did not realize there was a version 3 out. They changed the diffuser style from a while line to ridges. I wasn't able to tell the difference between the version 2 and 3 once they were installed.
Received my ST AC4400CW. Love them but made a few changes to F3 and F7. Changed to coupler and wheel flange squeal
Well I wanted to compare my ST AC4400's to the Kato units but I can not find/remember where they are. And by comparison, I was more interested in the pull strength. I have several that also have ESU sound decoders etc. In any event I am taking a several day break for anything serious having to do with trains, but I reserve the right for additional purchases.
A bag of Woodland Scenics TR1121 Tree Armatures for ongoing production for my N Scale road. Bought at my local hobby shop. I see trees in my sleep.
